Compare Bourbon Bottles

Choose two (or three) real bottles from our Distillery Directory to see how their proof, age, bourbon styles, and flavor profile actually compare -- side by side, using the same structured data behind every bottle page.

Pick two bottles above to see a full side-by-side comparison. Your selection updates the page's URL as you go, so you can copy the link and share the exact comparison with someone else.

      How to Compare Bourbon

Two bottles can look similar on a shelf and taste completely different -- or look nothing alike and share more than you'd expect. Proof, age, mash bill, and production style (single barrel, small batch, barrel proof, bottled-in-bond) all shape what ends up in the glass. Comparing bottles side by side is the fastest way to understand what's actually different before you buy, and what two bottles you already own actually have in common.

      What Proof Means

Proof is exactly twice the alcohol-by-volume percentage under federal regulation -- a 100-proof bourbon is 50% ABV. Higher proof isn't "better," it's a different experience: more concentrated flavor and heat, often cut with more water at home. See the Proof & Dilution Calculator for the exact math and what adding water actually does.

      Why Mash Bills Matter

A bourbon's mash bill -- its recipe of corn, rye, wheat, and malted barley -- drives a huge amount of its flavor. A wheated bourbon tends softer and sweeter; a high-rye bourbon tends spicier. Not every distillery publishes exact percentages, so a comparison here sometimes shows a style label instead of numbers -- that's the real publicly available data, not a rounding choice.

      Understanding Bourbon Styles

"Single barrel," "small batch," "bottled-in-bond," and "barrel proof" are all real, distinct production designations, not marketing synonyms for each other. The Bourbon & Whiskey Styles Explorer breaks down exactly what each one legally or practically promises.

      Understanding Flavor Notes

The flavor notes shown in a comparison come from each bottle's own published tasting description, matched against a fixed 45-descriptor taxonomy -- never guessed or generated. Browse the full taxonomy in the Flavor Explorer, or walk through tasting a bottle yourself with Guided Tasting.
